The 3 Levels Of Missionary Work

Hello everyone! I hope you all are doing well! I hope everyone is keeping up with their goals and resolutions they have set up for the year! It is an exciting time! Lets get into the week!

On Tuesday and Wednesday this week we were lucky to have a car. A bunch of elders had to drive up to Eugene for MLC so we got to use the car for those couple of days! We tried to hit every house on the far side of our area. Our area is full of crazy hills and I really do not care to bike over there. Unlike Medford 3rd ward. DIstance is not a problem. But the hills kill ya. We hit all those houses over there and just tried to set up lessons with them. Most of the time we can arrange a ride if we get something set up. But no successes came from it! Maybe a couple of member lessons. So far that is it.

We got to talk with one of my zone leaders grandpas who is good friends with president this week as well. He was a mission president somewhere and he wanted to share a couple of things with us. So we jump on the phone call and start talking about what he called the 3 levels of missionary work. How there is so much more that can happen when we use the members to help us with finding. The first level is the one that sucks the most. 80% missionary efforts. There is hardly any baptisms that come from this and the inactivity rate of these new members dwindles very quickly. The second is about half and half. 50% members 50% missionaries. The members are helping out with lessons and helping love share and invite. This doubles the baptisms. The last level is the one he was telling us to shoot for. This one had 80% members and 20% missionaries. The members are doing all the finding and the missionaries are doing all the teaching. This is the optimal one. This triples the number of baptisms and has the new members retention stays forever. They are all friends with the members which is what we want.

So president and the zone have all been working towards this. We have been sharing so many messages about loving sharing and inviting the members. The members in this ward are awesome. I love the ward. I loved being able to go to church today and give knuckles to all the little kiddos at church that i knew. One of the little tender mercies.

We have been trying to find people to teach and we have knocked on so many doors and nothing happens. I think it is because people work and it just always ends up being mid day to early afternoon when we are knocking. Yall are probably thinking "Tysen then go later in the day" But usually we have member lessons in the evening and it is 35 degrees outside in the evening and I dont care to ride up a mountain when we literally have like 45 extra minutes in the evening. I am trying to hard to work with the members. That is the best way to find people to teach. I feel like I started over in the area. The missionaries here didnt do jack squat the last little while so I am trying to figure out the area. We have been playing pickleball a bit and that has actually been super awesome. We have talked to the most people doing that then other things. When we are public finding other ways people just scowl at you when you go up to them. It is very discouraging. I dont know what else to say.

I love yall and I hope yall have an awesome week!
