Prove All Things
Hello people of the email list! I hope you are all doing amazing! This week has had a ton of ups and downs! I guess lets get started!
TORR
Guess who is back! We had another suprise lesson with Torr! He calls us up and we really didnt have anything crazy going on so we told him we were at the church and he said he would be there in 10 minutes. Well he shows up and he tells us he has not too long and that we could take 10 minutes if he can have 5. So we decide to go over the gospel of Jesus Christ. Mostly covering the 5 main points. Faith, Repentance, Baptism, Recieving the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the end. We explain this and after like 5 words he asks us to explain it in more detail. He told us he needed to understand everything as we go. So this whole time we are contradicting ourselves. He is probably the most infuriating person I have ever taught.
Our 10 minutes are up and he starts his 5. He tells us that ours doesnt make sense because "Faith does not lead to action" I tried to explain this and he starts going on a tangent on how the devil has such a strong hold on the world and how he uses these certain technics to influence people. He also told us we needed to use these technics to go against it. Then he drew a bar graph and tried to explain something and then told off Elder Holmes for being too eager to talk and how he was everything he hated about himself. I mentioned how last time we talked it was for 45 minutes and I got absolutely nothing out of it. So you guys are probably just as confused as i am. Thats Torr for you!
John the Salesman
One of the days I actually found someone on Facebook! I didnt think it worked either! Well we went over and met at a mcdonalds just down the street and he was literally one of the strangest guys I have meet in a long time. He was so optomistic about life and stuff which is a rarety in good ol oregon. He started this new years resolution where he wanted to meet and get to know one new person a day. He would ask them some pretty deep questions and stuff. He said he has seen so many miracles from it. Though we were with him for 2 hours I do feel like I learned something from him. We always get rejected. I feel like I can learn from him and get to know people before I start doing my job. Maybe they will actually like me if I do that. They will not dread seeing us pedalling up the street. It would be such a good thing. I should be making a post on facebook this week talking about John so stay tuned for that!
Professional fire alarm installers!!
Well on Saturday all the misionaries were asked if we could go help out the Americal Red Cross for the afternoon. So we show up there and they tell us what we are going to be doing. They wanted us to pretty much go tracting and install fire alarms for free! So I teamed up with Elder Asay who is one of my favorite people ever. And we went and did it! So if you ever need someone who is an absolute professional at installing and setting off fire alarms give me a call! I will be there in a few long months!
Prove all things
Alright, the email is getting pretty long so this will be my last one. We had a lesson with this guy named Joe earlier today. He clearly had another church he went to all the time. So he was kind of skeptical about us coming over because he didnt want us to push our religion on him. He was sober from Drugs and Alchol for 8 years! Such an impressive thing! I am so stoked for him. Anyways, We told him what we would tell him would change his life. But we didnt want him to take our word for it. We talked about how our church does not rely on blind faith. But we recieve a witness for ourselves through prayer. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 tells us to prove all things; hold fast to that which is good. I love this scripture right now because it segways straight into the book of mormon. How we recieved a witness for ourselves through prayer. And to encourage him to do the same. He told us he would! So I hope that ends up working out! He seems so ready. Please pray that he will recieve his own witness enough to keep meeting with us!
I love you all! Talk to ya next week!
