Someone Ate My Temple!!?
Well hello people of the email list. There has been a lot of different things happen the last week. Dont worry many of them are good. Monday we went on a desert hike over in Alturas. It was at like a tri point. It was where Cali, Nevada and Oregon all come to a point. Kind of like the 4 corners but way less cool and popular. There was not anyone there so A couple of us decided it would be cool to pee in 3 different states at once. So obviously I did. What else did you expect? We are teenage guys.
Besides that we legit did not do a lot. Until this weekend. Tuesday we went over to Jacks. He is such a cool guy. He is recovering well from his heart surgery. He even could walk up the stairs and come hangout and talk with us while we were there. He was saying it was a relief to talk to someone different. Chevy did not talk a lot which is kind of typical for him so it was just Jack and I talking with eachother.
Wednesday we decided to take a bit of a walk and go and knock on the doors of the inactive members, It felt like tracting but not sketchy because we knew we would not be like stabbed or shot for the most part. We had a couple of people answer and pretty much tell us they were not interested so that was kind of rough.
Thursday we went and helped Adrianna's mom load up her truck for the dump. that was pretty much the funnest part of the day. it was like 30 min. '
Friday we got to go to District council. It was our first one that was in person so I was excited to go. I love district council.
Alright alright alright now the fun days. GENERAL CONFERENCE! I hope you all got to watch or listen to the amazing words of the general authorities over the last couple days. I absolutely loved them. On Saturday Chevy and I went over to Alturas to watch it with Elder Green and Walker. We went to lunch and stuff and It was a blast! Sunday the Johnson family allowed us as well as the Alturas Elders into their home to watch the Morning and Afternoon sessions. We really appreciate the willingness to allow us into their already pretty crowded home. They have 10 kids. So there were 16 people in that house yesterday to watch conference together. We made temples out of marshmellows and toothpicks. I made one and then one of the younger kids ate my temple so I made a snowman to make up for it. Chevy and I then went and cooked a chicken Jack gave us a few weeks back and it turned out pretty good! I mean for a missionary with little experience of how to cook a whole chicken. It was a delicious meal yesterday. Lets just say we ate a lot of food yesterday. It is like Christmas!! For missionaries!
My very favorite talks were President Nelsons and this guy named Rafael like the ninja turtle. He talked about how some people's customs are completely different from ours. Like avacado with sugar or coconut with chili. Then he talked about how we need to change our customs to include things such as reading the Book of Mormon every day, going to sacrament meeting etc. I loved this talk because it is really easy since I am on a mission to look unto Jesus in every thought. We are surrounded by things that push us towards that direction. But before the mission it was not as easy for me. Maybe it was not my custom to read the Book of Mormon every day. Or to pray day and night. I just know that when I get off my mission I will try my very very hardest to keep all these things my customs.
I encourage you to make all these things customs in your life. Even if you have to wake up earlier. These customs make every single day way better. Reading the Book of Mormon every day changes the outcome of your life. There is a quote I heard recently and I have no idea where I heard it. It goes something like this. "I know nobody that has left the church that reads the Book of Mormon every day and keeps the covenants we made with Heavenly Father." I do not think that is exact but you get the gist. If you keep all your covenants and read from the Book of Mormon each and every day it will be very hard for the adversary to defer you off the path. As long as you hold to that iron rod and do not let go, you will be guided to the tree of life and get to go to the kingdoms of glory with full confidence that you have done everything in your power to do good in this world.
Questions: How can you adapt reading the Book of Mormon, partaking of the sacrament, praying etc into your "Customs"??
What was your favorite general conference talk and why?
