The Character Of Christ

Good afternoon people of the email list. It is the second week of the MTC and the scheduling is very different. I am not used to having much or any of a schedule to go off of and it definitely is different. Plus im still getting used to waking up at 630 in the mornings. The first day was definitely easier for me because I was very excited about my new start.

I had to leave my amazing family behind this week to start my mission. This was pretty emotional for me. I am pretty bummed I cant make as many dumb comments with them as much for the next 2 years. I can over phone call though. You guys better watch out!

My amazing companion Elder Graf has been a joy to me since I started the MTC with him. He makes everyone laugh and he loves to cause a bit of mischief which I am totally down for. We found a couple of random stuff in the vents of our residance room. A butter knife, some Hi-chews, and we put a couple things in there like a spoon and a ring pop.

I am roomed with Elder Short and Elder Eberle. Elder Short was asked to be our district leader and one of our favorite things is to mess with him about his responsibilities. Both him and Elder Eberle are hilarious people and I really enjoy having a room with them. We have all sorts of inside jokes that have just made it a better experience for everyone. And we have played lots of Ping Pong! Your welcome McKay!

Earlier in the week I came across around half a dozen Elders from Hurricane! I took a picture with them because I thought what a coincidance. Elder Hatch, Elder Dennet, Elder Jessop, Elder Klunker, Elder Peart, and Elder Jones, (Not pictured)

We were able to go to the amazing Provo temple for our p-day today. I convinced our district to wear floral ties and dresses because it is "Floral Friday!" So in the temple pictures we all are wearing floral attire.

Now to the serious part, I feel like I have incresed my knowledge of the gospel and my love for Jesus. We had a devotional the first day of in person MTC called "The Character of Christ" It was this very meaningful devotional about how we need to be more like Jesus by turning outward instead of inward. To love people and not worry as much about yourself. The natural man always wants to focus on themselves and to become more like Jesus we need to turn outward. Elder Bednar relates this to the cookie monster. The natural man wants instand gratification. "I want cookie now!" Does that sound like the natural man? Having that instant gratification can be very tempting because it is more often than not the easier of the 2 choices. Choosing the easier of the 2 might be easier now but there is a consequence later down the road that takes you away from the covenant path.

I read the talk by President Nelson about spiritual momentum this morning. I felt like this follows the learnings of the character of christ very easily. The five points he has that he mentioned are as follows,
1. Get on the covenant path and stay there
2. The joy of daily repentance
3. Learn about god and how he works
4. Seek and expect Miracles
5. End Conflict in your personal life.
I testify that if we put off the natural man it will become easier in the long run for us to do. It doesnt mean it will be easy. It will be easier. Just having this amazing gospel in my life has allowed me to be more of a happy person. To share that overwhelming feeling of peace that I get from learning and reading the scriptures each and every day. 3 Nephi 27:27 says, "Ye are my disciples; and ye are a light unto this people, who are a remnant of the house of Joseph." Every one of the members of the church have the light of christ with them constantly. My companion Elder Graf explained this to me in a great way by using a candle. He talked about how when your light of your candle is lit people notice it because around them is dark. They are going to want some of that amazing light. They come to you and ask how to get it. You can reply and give them some of that light. If they decide to not come they will live in darkness without the light of christ.

I love you all so much! I miss having you guys around me. You are all amazing examples to me. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

So every week I am going to ask a couple of questions that you can think about throughout the week. Please answer them if you feel prompted to do so. I would love to hear about your experiences. Discuss them with your family if you would like to!

How have you helped spread Christs love this week?
What can you do to spread it even further?
What are some characteristics of christ that you have or need to work on getting?
